ABOUT

Rory Grindlay, 21, has been playing drums for around 6-7 years now, 5 of which have been professionally.

He has been incredibly lucky to play some amazing gigs and see some amazing parts of the world at such an early stage in his career.

His love of drumming began in Primary 7 when he joined a local pipe band playing snare drum. On going to high school he became more interested in the drum kit and joined the West Lothian Schools Big Band and West Lothian Schools Folk Group. Rory also featured in the Young Drummer Of The Year UK top 40 in both 2013 & 2014.

Rory absolutely loves playing other genres. He enjoys many types of music from The 1975 to Mike Oldfield.

Trad music has always been a passion of his, even from a young age he listened to Trad bands and Scottish dance bands.

At the age of 16 Rory was asked to join the contemporary Celtic music group Skipinnish. This has seen Rory travel across the UK and Europe playing concerts and festivals with crowds of up to 15,000 people. He has also performed and worked with many other bands and artists including, Norrie Maciver, Scott Wood, Rachel Walker, Runrig guitarist Malcolm Jones, Mànran and Skerryvore.

Rory is a member of Skara Ceilidh Band and regularly performs at functions and corporate events.

Rory is a dynamic and energetic young player. His love of music and drumming is visible when he performs. He really enjoys live gigs and in his words "the feeling you get from an audience is indescribable." He also really enjoys the recording process and in his spare time he uploads drum covers to his YouTube and other social media accounts.
